ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan’s Tauber Institute for Global Operations, a joint venture between the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business and the College of Engineering, will be participating in the IIE Annual Conference & Expo 2014 held this year at Palais des Congres de Montreal in Montreal, Canada, May 31-June 3, 2014.
Honored at the conference will be the Tauber Institute Engineering Co-Director and IOE Professor, Larry Seiford. Larry is the 2014 recipient of the Albert G. Holzman Distinguished Educator Award from the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE).
The award recognizes educators who contributed significantly to the profession through teaching, research and publication, extension, innovation, or administration. Nomination is based on teaching excellence, research accomplishment and publication, continuing education or development of off-campus courses, and documented innovative education techniques.
IIE Annual Conference & Expo in Montreal is billed as the largest industrial and systems engineering learning and networking event of the year. The conference program comprises two types of sessions: Applied Solutions, showcasing proven solutions and applications from industry, and the Industrial & Systems Engineering Research Conference (ISERC), featuring research from academia and industry scholars.
In recent years, strong demand for industrial and manufacturing engineers has resulted in an excellent employment rate for industrial engineering graduates, according to the Quebec Department of Education, Recreation and Sport's Relance survey data. The jobs found by these graduates have also been very good: almost all are full-time, the vast majority are linked to their field of study and pay higher salaries than for graduates as a whole. The IIE Annual Conference & Expo gives us the opportunity to meet face-to-face and introduce the Tauber Institute to the attendees. We’ll be available to answer questions and discuss education opportunities. With our 99% student employment of spring 2013 graduates, we are excited to help more students." The Tauber Institute will be in booth 202.
