Emerson, an industrial automation giant, faces damage to packages, waste, and high costs in its shipping loop with suppliers. The current single-use packaging is easily damaged and cannot be recycled or reused. This presents the opportunity to reduce package damage, improve sustainability, and reduce costs in the shipping loop. The Tauber team will leverage cost-benefit analysis and value stream mapping to identify an optimal packaging solution considering packaging specifications, monetary and time savings, and sustainability. The project will focus first on a sustainable packaging initiative piloted between the Emerson facility in Boulder, CO and Kerkau, a supplier of metal flanges based out of Bay City, MI. If successful, the project will expand to implementation at Emerson’s Chihuahua facility and possibly other suppliers.
