
Steve Skerlos is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan, where he also serves as Faculty Director of the Center for Socially Engaged Design (C-SED). His research spans sustainable manufacturing, life cycle assessment, and anaerobic bioprocessing. He is Founder and CTO of Fusion Coolant Systems, whose supercritical CO₂ machining technology received the EPA Green Chemistry Challenge Award. He previously founded Accuri Cytometers, which was acquired by BD Biosciences. Through C-SED, he has built a design education program that serves thousands of students annually, integrating stakeholder engagement and engineering ethics into capstone and other courses across the College of Engineering.
