Jim Omartian is an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, where his research examines the pivotal role of information in shaping organizational decision-making and market outcomes. Utilizing large-scale, confidential microdata from the U.S. Census Bureau and advanced econometric methods—including the integration of machine learning—he investigates internal management control dynamics, such as the impact of predictive analytics and AI on organizational authority and performance. His work, which has been published in top-tier journals including the Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, and The Accounting Review, also explores information frictions at the firm’s periphery, such as transparency in international trade and labor markets. Professor Omartian’s scholarly contributions have earned him several honors, including the Arnold M. and Linda T. Jacob Faculty Development Award and multiple “Excellence in Refereeing” awards from the Journal of Accounting Research. In the classroom, he leads the MBA core Managerial Accounting course, where he integrates his research on organizational architecture and ESG disclosure to equip future leaders with rigorous analytical and decision-making skills.
