Tauber's Business and Engineering Teams Announced

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Tauber Institute for Global Operations at the University of Michigan launched 32 team projects sponsored by 23 top global firms for 2016.  The teams were announced at Tauber's annual Kickoff dinner at the Ross School of Business. New Tauber team project sponsors for 2016 include Cribmaster, Fresenius, Tesla and Volkswagen Group of America.

A signature initiative of the Tauber Institute, team projects pair top students with companies from a variety of industries for a 14-week multidisciplinary, collaborative project.  Each 2-3 person project team is made up of Masters of Engineering, MBA, and/or MSCM students.  Along with executive direction from the sponsoring company, each team receives support from both a College of Engineering and a Ross School of Business faculty advisor, and supervision by a Tauber Institute Co-Director

Tauber student teams work on-site for 14-weeks (mid-May through August) to find solutions for substantive challenges in operations. Solutions may include lean process design and implementation, manufacturing site strategic assessment, sourcing plan, inventory management, lean analysis, logistics, manufacturing, new product development. The Tauber team projects provide significant return on a sponsoring company’s investment (often uncovering millions of dollars of savings), as well as improvements in areas such as CO2 emissions, energy consumption, throughput time, and supply chain risk.

A full list of the 2016 Tauber team projects will be available and searchable on the Tauber website in the near future.

In addition to working in the United States, Tauber students will be traveling to Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom for their 2016 team projects.  Follow their journey as students share their experiences on Tauber bloggers.  You can also keep up-to-date on this year’s Tauber team projects by following @umtauber on Twitter or Facebook
