ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Tauber Institute for Global Operations, a joint venture between the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business and the College of Engineering, participated in the IIE Annual Conference & Expo 2014, the largest industrial and systems engineering event of the year. The conference was held in Montreal, Canada on May 31 – June 3, 2014.
The second day of the event schedule included the opening of the floor exhibits at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, as well as a variety of panel discussions. U-M’s faculty from the College of Engineering included Mark Daskin, Clyde W. Johnson Collegiate Professor of Industrial and Operations Engineering and Chair and Amy Cohn, Associate Professor and Thurnau Professor in the Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering. Cohn is also the Associate Director of the University of Michigan Center for Healthcare Engineering and Patient Safety, as well as an Affiliate of the MIT Global Airline Industry Program. Both were featured panelists on the discussion entitled “Emerging Research Trends in Healthcare.” The discussion focused on the opportunities and challenges associated with industrial engineers working in the healthcare area. Other panelists included: Scott Levin (Johns Hopkins University), Maria Mayorga (North Carolina State University), and Michael Carter (University of Toronto).
The Honors and Awards Dinner held at the InterContinental Montreal honored the Goff Smith Co-Director of the Tauber Institute for Global Operations and Professor of Industrial and Operations Engineering Larry Seiford as the 2014 recipient of the Albert G. Holzman Distinguished Educator Award. The award recognizes educators who have contributed significantly to the profession through teaching, research and publication, extension, innovation, or administration.
The IIE Annual Conference & Expo wrapped up on Tuesday, June 3.
