ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Farhan Qureshi, MEng ’13, is among many other things an engineer, entrepreneur, and self-proclaimed Bollywood-style dancer. Raised in Australia, this accomplished leader has spent time working in New York and Indonesia as well as studying in Ann Arbor. Qureshi embodies a truly global outlook and knows firsthand the international impact that students in the Tauber Institute for Global Operations can have on the world.
Qureshi was named the 2013 Tauber Alumni Scholarship Award recipient for his contributions to the program as a member of the EGP Student Advisory Board as well as President of the Tauber Student Advisory Board (SAB). He led the SAB to its most productive year by creating many new events and initiatives including the Tauber Times newsletter, web support, Co-Director Catch-Ups, Leadership Speaker Forum Committee support, career services, alumni communications and networking, facility tours, mentorship, Tauber Speed Meeting, and more. One-third of these functions were undertaken for the first time by the SAB and were completed under budget.
At the industry level, Qureshi advocated for companies and organizations to take part in student led activities such as the 2nd Annual Industry Advisory Board Service Day. A work in progress, this is an on-going effort to help students understand the value they can bring to community organizations.
Qureshi said that the SAB also coordinated with other student and alumni organizations, focusing on developing a positive relationship with the EGL Honors Program and its Student Board to share resources and pursue ‘on-boarding’ of the newest members of the Tauber Institute.
"I'm obviously honored and humbled to receive an award which is given on the measures of extracurricular involvement, thought leadership, and dedication to existing Tauber Institute programs. Having completed the Tauber program, there is some disappointment in the fact that the opportunity to work longer and closer with the Tauber Institute, at least on campus, has met its end as I complete my postgraduate education. However, this provides the perfect springboard to continue assisting the Institute's development of Alumni initiatives and projects which can allow Tauber graduates, both recent and those with a sure-footing in respective industries, to give back,” said Qureshi.
The $2,500 scholarship was given at the annual Spotlight! event where Qureshi and his teammate were among the 35 teams presenting their summer project accomplishments and findings to judges. “As I look to enter the management consulting industry, I realize now that what the Tauber experience has given me in terms of not only the ability to secure an interview or even an offer, pales in comparison to the individual impact I and each of my classmates will have as a Tauber Alum," he said.
