Taught jointly by faculty of the Ross School of Business and the Stamps School of Art & Design, the annual Integrated Product Design course challenges cross-disciplinary student teams from the College of Engineering, Ross School of Business, Stamps School of Art & Design, and School of Information to design, build, and market a brand new product, and then to face free market competition through the IPD Trade Show. This course marks the 24th Trade Show.

The Winter 2019 IPD challenge:  Healthy Kids /Active Tech

  • Visualize the situation of pre-adolescent children ages 9-12. As they develop their autonomy and independence, it is also a critical time to establish healthy habits that can lead to positive life outcomes. Kids today interact with technology more intensively than in any previous generation.
  • Consider the offered products, and how each would impact good health habits in areas such as nutrition, physical activity, mental health, technology/media use, and sleep.
  • Decide how you would spend up to $150 of IPD money on these products.

Members of the University of Michigan community and the general public are invited to meet the student design teams, test out prototypes of their new products, and vote for the “best of the best” at the Winter 2019 Integrated Product Development Trade Show, April 10 in the Tauber Colloquium of the Ross School of Business.

Want a preview?  Student teams designed webpages and videos to advertise their new products and released them to the public for on-line voting on April 2.
