Tom Dawson is Chief of Staff for Global Operations for Steelcase Inc. Steelcase helps create great experiences – wherever work happens. Tom became Chief of Staff after serving as VP of Global Operations, acting on behalf of the senior vice president of Global Operations to help manage the Supply Chain, which includes Order Fulfillment, Procurement, Manufacturing, Transportation, and Distribution, at all locations around the globe.
Previously, Tom was director of Customer Experience for Nurture by Steelcase (2010-11). He was responsible for managing and directing customer-facing activities, including inside sales, technical application and design, and customer service. He was also the primary operations liaison responsible for overall quality and service performance
Prior to that, Tom was director of Operations Agility (2009-10), with responsibility for designing, developing, and implementing strategic customer-facing projects within a matrix organization. He several cross-functional teams through entire problem solving process and implementation and ensured solutions were technically feasible, business viable, and user desirable.
Tom joined Steelcase in 2004 as Corporate Strategy manager, and has also held positions as manager of Seating Supply Chain and director of Supply Chain Management.
Before joining Steelcase, Tom was an associate at McKinsey and Company (2000-04) and a manager at Deloitte (1995-99).
He serves on the Industry Advisory Board of the Tauber Institute for Global Operations at the University of Michigan.
Tom earned his bachelor’s degree from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and his master’s from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He resides in Byron Center with his wife and two children.
